There are three kinds of people in this world…
1.) Those who make things happen,
2.) Those who watch things happen, and
3.) Those who wonder what the heck JUST happened?
Now which one do you want to be?
I have heard this little bit of wisdom quoted more than once in my short existence to date. The times that I have heard this it has almost always been given as motivational advice from an older more experienced man to a younger man. I have heard this nugget of gold in the business world and have heard this given as an anecdote for personal life issues.
Recently I ran across this quote attributed to Leonardo da Vinci…
“It has long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.”
These two quotes have caused me to take a hard look at myself and what motivates me. Situations, both negative and positive, will ebb and flow in the short few years we walk this earth. How we react to them defines. When the opportunity to love and serve a neighbor arises do we go make that love and service happen, do we wait thinking, “someone else will take care of them”, or are we so out of touch with what and who surrounds us that we are the one wondering what just happened? Same thing goes in the business world. Are we out there in our jobs making the sale, servicing the customer, anticipating the needs, and delighting our employers by owning our jobs and doing them to their fullest extent? Giving our all with the 40 hours we are given to work. The challenge is there in these two quotes. Go out and make a difference in the spheres in which we have influence. Love where the situation requires love. Serve others selflessly before giving thought to ourselves. Order our lives in a way that honors the one who created us.
Now which one do you want to be?
I know what my choice is.
What’s yours?
